I was so surprised to see a craft section on here. I usually have to search high and low for other crafters of color, so hopefully I will meet some other sisters who enjoy creating art. I enjoy mixed media, textiles, but I do not get a lot of time to do it as I would like. I would love to learn how to crochet...anyone out there? I would love to share ideas!
I read ymib's Crafty Lady and I hope to see that section grow.

Re:Craft Ideas???
Peace!
I take part in many crafts and i switch it up depending on which way the wind blows. Lately i've been wanting to get back to crocheting. but since i've recently learned to use my sewing machine, i want to do more with that too.
for a long time i've admired jewelry makers. Especially work with wires and beads. not necessarily together. lol. Anyone here have examples of their jewelry?

Re:Craft Ideas???
Question for you lovely crafty ladies. Have you ever gone through a moment where you have so much ideas and so much you feel you can do but don't know where to start or what is more important that it ends up slowing you down?
I find myself rising with Fashion, graphic, web, craft, jewelry, crocheting, sewing and community work all on my mind almost all at the same time. It slows me down a bit and it makes balancing it all out look like science not to mention spritualy balaning it all out.
Is there a such thing as a "too much talent syndrome"? Am I the only one?
Re:Craft Ideas???
Nope, you're not alone. I have ideas on jewelry, songs, poems, businesses, community service, etc. all the time. It can be a task just to stay focus on one thing without writing down notes/ideas about another. One of my good friends always tells me that it's a matter of disciplining your mind and time management...but I've yet to master either:) But, I do agree. One of the ways I've been able to deal with the overflow is to carry a notebook and recorder with me at all times. This way, I can write down or record anything that pops in my head and save it for later. The way I handle it spiritually is that I continue to pray for guidance...because everything has a time. So, while the ideas and opportunities come at one time, it may not be for me to act on them at that time. So, I try my best to listen for God's direction and not my own. Hope that helps!!!
p.s. if you have any ideas on how to handle it...I'd appreciate the advice as well:)

Re:Craft Ideas???
Your website is fantastic!!! I love to see crafty women of color using their creative genuiss!!! LOL. I can't wait to try your photo frame! I love batiking..I have tried it with some parrafin wax on cotton fabrix, and then ironing the wax out, and it turned out quit nice. I will be doing some more soon and will post a few pics here once they are complete. I was thinking of making a small piece of art to frame using patches...sewing each batik square together.
Have any of you tried batiking? how did it work out for you...what tools did you use, and has anyone used the "tjanting" tool(please forgiv me if this is mispelled) it is a tool that holds the wax while you apply it, and sometimes it is electric?

Thanks for your note. I've done a little batiking, but generally I import cotton jacquard batiks from Ghana for myself and for the business. They do such beautiful work, and creative time is limited, so at this point I'd rather dive right in and make projects with their fabric, instead of making the batik myself ; )
In Global Expressions, I wrote about the Indonesian batik using the tjanting as well as Sadza batik from Zimbabwe, where cornmeal is used as the resist, instead of the more familiar wax method.
