SOOOO SWEET!!

I love sweets!! So much so that I have a candy jar which I restock pretty often and have gotten a cavity for the first time in my life. So, I gave up sweets for lent, like cookies, candy, cake, ice cream etc. will the full intention of eating 40 days worth on Easter. However, my sugar cravings are gone and when I tried to eat a yogurt today, it was so insanely sweet that I couldn't finish it. While only 100 calories, my yogurt had 11.4!!! Then I saw this article below. I am gonna have to find a different yogurt b/c I love it. It is kinda cool that my body has changed this much in 40 days. I guess I won't be going through with my Easter plans but I am sure my body will thank me.

(BlackDoctor.org) -- We are a nation addicted to sugar. In fact, the average American consumes 23 teaspoons of added sugar daily. That means 370 calories! Compare that to the 10 teaspoons of sugar that The World Health Organization recommends for a 1,600-calorie diet, and you can see the problem.

Unfortunately, many of us are often unaware of the added sugar in our diet. It can hide in the most surprising of places and not even the most health-conscious are always able to detect it. To help aid us in our quest to eat healthier, The Agricultural Research Service has started a database that actually lists the added-sugar content in over 2,000 foods.

To get you started, take a look at some of the following. You’ll be surprised at what you find.

Tonic Water For a 5 oz bottle of this beverage, you’ll be ingesting 3.2 tsp of added sugar.

Non-Fat Yogurt, Fruit Variety Our nation is notorious for adding sugar to foods and yogurt is the perfect example. Try any of these and you’ll be getting 11.4 added teaspoons of added sugar. That’s more than the recommended daily allotment!

Green Goddess Salad Dressing Drizzle this onto your salad and you’ll be getting 6.5 teaspoons of added sugar.

Canned Vegetarian Baked Beans A cup of these can add 3.7 tsp of sugar to your diet.

Be sure to visit ars.usda.gov to check the added sugar content in a variety of foods. Once you are fully informed, you’ll be able to make healthier, smarter choices in your eating habits. Good Luck!
