How do I begin to introduce myself? I'll start by sharing that I am the mother of a nearly two-year old son. His father is Ashanti from Ghana; I am a fourth generation Texas blackwoman. Georgia is our current home.

I am drawn to words and fancy myself a writer, but in truth I spend more time with my nose in a book than I do typing or writing out ideas. I'm passionate about family, history, the preservation of memory and stories. I also love music, food, art, film, roots spirituality, Afro Atlantic culture (esp. southern Louisiana and Brazil)...and so many of the things you deal with here.

My pregnancy and birth of my son were dream-atically life altering in ways I never would have imagined. Some very good. Some painful and that I'm still coming to terms with. No matter what, though, my little prince is my treasure. My "best thing."

Happened upon YMIB about a month ago. What a blessing! Like coming to a clearing in a wilderness-- sun shining down on a sacred ground.

I teach part time at a college and now that summer break has come I'm visiting family in Texas and have spent hours (and hours) over the past few days taking in the scene of this amazing community. Prior to now I had little time to do so.

As one of your articles reminds, we must keep our lives in order and part of that involves keeping a handle on time-- something I constantly struggle with. That said, Ma'at is telling me to conclude my intro. Looking forward to connecting more later.
