In the upcoming months I plan on dabbling more into crocheting. Is there anyone out there who is working on a current crochet project for yourself or someone else? Does anyone have any good resources as far as books and tutorials. I know that Afya has two books out but I would like to know what books have inspired your crochet projects & also your craft projects...post pics too if you can..LOL! :)
Learning more everyday!
Well although my sister and I have a book coming out next month, we are both itching to learn more and more new crochet techniques everyday. We learned how to crochet in 4th grade and have built our business on basic crochet stitches.
However, we've both been watching videos and stuff from the fabulous links mentioned before on this blog, and we are having a ton of fun! While creating special order Double Stitch items of our own for clients, we've been learning new stuff from "Knit and Crochet Today" on TV and incorporating the techniques in some of our designs.
So lately, I have been doing halter tops with tons of fringes, and I've been practicing the Crunch stitch and the spike stich on the bodice of the tops to create some nice detail and support just under the chest! Fun, fun, fun. I plan to figure out how to download pics from my new camera soon and I'll post some examples:-)

I have yet to make an original crochet tote that I liked myself. I've made stuff to carry around my yarn in, however. Nothing I'd tote around for fashion purposes. But there are a wealth of patterns available (again, online) for totes and bags. I eventually want to make this one

Not My Mama's Crochet
I learned to sew, embroider and crochet when I was an 8 year child, in the Caribbean. It was dthe done thing back then. My late Grandmother Ena was a seamstress. So whilst I developed my sewing, fashion and design skills , I let go crochet. Uuuhh the Caribbean penchant for doilies and loo paper covers is not exactly inspiring.(LOL) Inspired by my creative sisters here at YMIB and a recent trip to the Caribbean where I discovered some fashion forward designs; I started crocheting again last year. I just went out and bought some hooks and yarn, and my creativity just exploded. I have crocheted neckwraps, scarves, hats, headwraps, fingerless gloves, and a hemp bag to hold all my needles and yarn. I have also been crocheting jewellery, with wire, beads, and yarn.
I found loads of websites for tutorials and free patterns. I made stuff from Afya's site. A lot of the yarn companies have their own websites with patterns, podcasts etc. I also bought a book called Not Your Mama's Crochet by Amy Swenson. I just ordered some recycled sari silk yarn and I'm going to make the shrug from this book as my next major project. I also can't wait for the new Double Stitch book.
I'll have to get some pictures taken and uploaded.
Check out some of my favourite sites

All the TIME!
I crochet all the time! I'm not so great at posting pics on ymib, but the links in my signiture will direct you to some recent crochet projects of mine. When I started teaching myself to crochet in 2005, I primarily used online resources. Here are a couple of links I still live by:
www.crochetpatterncentral.com
http://www.learntoknit.com/instructions_cr.php3
http://www.nexstitch.com/Tutorials.html <--- has videos!
And these are other sites that may be useful
http://www.hassdesign.com/StitchLegend/

http://www.craftown.com/crolesson.htm
I also have heard that youtube has great crochet videos. But I've never really checked into that.
As a mother, lover and all kinds of other things, there are times i have to make time to crochet. For the most part it's my relaxation time. If I'm not distracted at all, I meditate, say affirmations, prayers and do the budget in my head as I crochet. lol. It's really a time I can focus and center myself. It's very relaxing. I wish you much success and enjoyment as you learn to crochet!

Crocheting
I started making a blanket for my great nephew. I am using a grammy square patter in shades of blue. I haven't made anything in a long time and decided to start again and make gifts for family and friends as opposed to buying them.
