I have been meaning to post these waist beads for quite some time now. I love making and wearing waist beads! I like to wear these all together. I cannot even tell that I have them on! I want to make more in different colors. These are probably the easiet and cheapest adornment to make with beads..all you need is wire, beads, crimp beads, and clasp and chain. When we had our jewelry boutique up I use to sell them and I plan to do so in my etsy shop once that is up! Does anyone else like making or wearing waistbeads?
We should do a waistbead exchange here on ymib...anyone interested?

Waist Beads
Your waist beads looks nice I have not created my waist beads as of yet that is in the making soon I have to purchase some beads. Can you tell me what type of chain or string to use?
wire
i use the beadalon wire
some folks use the clear stretchy wire/string, but from how i string mine, the crimp bead and loop is too fat when i use the stretchy wire
here r mine
the pic is not too detailed because I took it W/ my phone. I used all glass beads for both sets. the top one had a 3 inch extension chain & the bottom one has a chain I made W/ jumprings W/ a beaded cowrie shell tail at the end... I used silver lobster claw claps & jumprings
Love It!!!
You did a great job.I never personally worn any but they look cute to wear with jeans.
love em!
I have a green strand and a yellow strand I got in Ghana that I never take off, except sometimes when I go away somewhere, then I give a strand to my man and he wears them around his neck! Scandalous, I know lol. Anyways I would love to make some more because mine are getting quite worn, I just don't know if I've got the knack for it. I'll give it a try, but I'm not sure if they'd be swap-worthy ;)
I made and wore waist beads
I made and wore waist beads years ago after reading Sacred Woman by Queen Afua. The beads were earth toned and I used cowrie shells also. It was a beautiful work of art. Once while in class, my string popped and my beads went rolling all over the floor. Talk about embarrassing!! I will make some waist beads in January 2009 as my abdomen will be expanding rapidly this year.
Peace!
Back again LOL as you can
Back again LOL as you can see I am doing my homework. i found this article wich made me wonder why you ladies wear waist beads (http://allafrica.com/stories/200705290010.html) is it truly just to tantalize your so's of dh's? I want to wear mine 24/7 well with the exception of showers and swimming ofcourse. This article somehow makes that seem "not done" what is your opinion ladies?

Love this post!!!
This is exactly what I need to reclaim my body! I have no idea how to make waistbeads but I know that this will be the perfect gift to self to reclaim not only my womanhood but also my sexuality. Since I am separated now I am sure it will take years before I allow a man to touch me it took a good 2 years of dating before I allowed my ex to touch me so I won't fool myself that I will allow another man to be that close to me anytime soon. I want to wear waistbeads not only as adornment but also as protection and as a reminder that I am womban first mother/daughter/friend second. I would love to buy some waistbeads made of real shells, natural stones, gems and maybe some glass beads. I rather not wear anything plastic because I want/need it to be sacred. If any of you have an idea of where I can buy one of these please let me know!
