I have been contemplating including green smoothies into my daily routine, even more so after reading Afrolady's latest "Green Mush" blog. However, I've heard a notion that certain fruits and vegetables should be eaten separately, due to their varying acidic levels...or something to that affect. In fact, I've even heard that certain fruits shouldn't be combined either.
So, I wanted to know if anyone else has heard of this, and could drop some knowledge down about this subject. Is there any truth to all of this?
apples
Hello,
I was told the only exception was apples. Apples can be mixed with veggies while juicing.
A question of digestion...
Yes, it is true that fruits and veggies should not be mixed. The reason why this rule applies is that our bodies use different types of enzymes to digest fruits and veggies.
From what I overstand, the only exception would be carrots and apples...those can be mixed.
For green smoothies, I blend almond milk, 1 banana, a few strawberries, and I add 1 tsp of spirulina powder. Spirulina is packed with protein, potassium, and vitamin A. It is also a blood sugar stabilizer and an immune system builder. You should give it a try!
Peace,
Saarchi
