Does anyone have suggestions for shampoos and moisturizers for locs? Mine are pretty long, but lately they've gotten super dry and are starting to break off at the ends. And I've found that most moisturizing products I've tried leave gunky buildup behind. Any advice or products that work?

Oil on damp locs works for me. I oil my hair almost daily, so sometimes i rinse during the week & I wash weekly( pretty much every saturday)...conditoner helps too, but make sure u dont get one full of heavy waxes. can make ur hair stick hard.. hth
OH, btw, I use a shampoo by eboni dawn.com, this sisiter in chicago makes it. it moisturizing & doesnt leave build up.
u can do a search for her on myspace becuase her ebay store is closed
Re: Loc moisture
I am still in the babyloc fase. I spritz my hair daily with water with a few drops of wosa's 5 oil. The oil is light and my hair feels super soft. It's a very light oil and if you rub some on your skin it disappears real quick I am pretty sure it won't cause build-up.
Your avatar is beautiful, gorgeous locs!
Hope this helps!

Re:Loc moisture
My locs are 2 years old and I've been using conditioner on my locs since around my 1 year mark. I wash weekly and usually condition weekly. Some times I'll wet my locs, then slather on some virgin coconut oil and let that sit for a time. then shampoo my locs. But usually good old conditioner does the trick. my favorite is Suave Tropical coconut. it smells great and conditions my locs. the trick to avoid build up is to rinse my locs well after every shampoo and condition.
i hope this helps.

Re:Loc moisture
Peace,
I recommend staying away from "conventional" hair products as much as possible. Why use unnatural products on your natural hair? Jojoba oil is a wonderful all over moisturizer and is fabulous for hair, as it mimics the body's own natural sebum. It is more costly than drugstore conditioners, but a little goes a long way. And you won't have the "build-up" issue.
As far as breakage, you may want to twist some of your thinning locs together. Also, keep in mind that the external is a mirror of the internal (physical, spiritual, & emotional). Hair & nail breakage, skin issues, etc. are all indicators of our internal health.

Re:Loc moisture
I think very light oils/conditioners are best for locs. I know what you mean about the gunky buildup, I HAtE that. I like hemp oil, jajoba oil, and coconut oil. All of those are rich in moisture yet it is not nearly as heavy as some of the creamier conditioners. I would also suggest finding leave-in conditioners/oils as well or spritzing your locs with a bit of water throughout the day....maybe keep a super mini spritzer of oils or water in your purse to five your locs a mist of conditioning throughout the day! Hope this helps!
