Another Hallmark holiday is on it's way, Valentines Day! I found myself clicking on an ad on MSN.com regarding Valentines Day gifts for him and her. I figured I could steal some ideas for my beau. Even though I came across some things that seemed like a good idea I began to think about how I'd much rather be creative. There are also a few things that I've had my eyes on at the mall but, I'd much rather receive something thoughtful that came straight from the heart.
Kwanzaa unlike Christmas is about giving gifts that you actually made and created yourself. I think Valentine's Day should be like that for a change. How about making your sweetie some homemade candy or fresh baked cookies instead of giving Hershey or Fannie Mae your funds? Who wouldn't love homemade desserts after a homemade meal? If it's something your love has been telling you they have a taste for and you haven't gotten around to making it yet, why not find the recipe and attempt to make it for V-Day! Even if it doesn't come out right I'm sure they'll love you for taking mental notes and actually remembering.
Are you low on cash but, you've been wanting to take a dream vacation? You can't quite get to Jamaica just yet? Order some take out jerk chicken, rice, and plantains from your favorite Jamaican restaurant and pop in a Bob Marley cd. Pour your babe a nice glass of ginger beer or Sorell and close your eyes and imagine your in Montego Bay.
Fulfill your fantasies! Role Play. Does your wife love Denzel Washington? If she does, you better get to memorizing some lines from Training day! If your guy loves Beyonce, pull out a freakum dress and sing girl! Some of these things may actually be comical but they're creative, fun, and may possibly spice up your love life.
It means more when it comes from the heart
Bless up sis ! This sis a wonderful idea. I think when it is homemade more time and love is put into a gift. This also gives you the choice of outtin your own twist on life. a lot of store bought things make me think " what made them think this was cute?" ATTITUDE GYAL
Creativity is Priceless

All so true. I find if you really engage your mind you can come up with ways to love on a shoestring budget that exude taste. "The Seduction Spa" was something I did for my husband's last birthday. I bought construction paper and made flyers (after the kids were fast asleep) posted them in the hallway leading to our bathroom with sexy quotes that came to mind. The goal was to lure him into the bedroom for a spa sensation. More or less a relaxation treatment. After dinner he had a coupon placed near his juice glass inviting him to my retreat and then came the hairwashing, hot oil treatment, the massage, the hot rocks, the jazz, the fruit tray, a nice shave and... The point is I agree don't get caught up in the notion of no romance without finance as long as you can recreate flair on a budget. Everybody wins but most especially your pocketbook.
