******the bleaching cream phenomenon is ill. The color complex is real. I made a short documentary about it that examines the manifestations in Texas rap: 'Colour Me Bad: Third Coast Hip Hop
keep up the good work, star.
Beautiful
Thank you for the dedication and this is a wonderful piece. Another interesting thing that I have noticed is the use of black. The word is one that represents all shades of African decent, whether it be the richest dark tone or red bone. I love how your piece sort of says that to me. Also: "don't change. folks will call you names and try to burn
away your blackness too. Close your eyes and imagine darkness smiling right back at you..." Is wonderfully put. (Please correct me if I'm wrong but...) It says to me, even though you are lighter in complexion, you are still black and all the "perks" that are experienced with being black will still come. The line reminded me of something my father thaught me when i was very young, through his stories about his past. Anywho... I could go on forever about the subject... And I would definitely be checking out your documentary.
Stay Beautiful Sis,

Black is beautiful!
Sis, give thanks for writing this...I love it! It is a beautiful thing to know that there are sistahs out there who love the skin they are in; that there are those amongst us that have not been wounded by this legacy of slavery. And that those who may have been hurt by it earlier in life have healed their wounds. Black is beautiful is not just a slogan...it is the truth!
I absolutely looooove the chocolate skin I am in! Keep loving yours, sis!
Bless,
Saarchi
