A certain man planted a rose and watered it faithfully
and before it blossomed, he examined it.
He saw the bud that would soon blossom, but
noticed thorns upon the stem and he thought...
"How can any beautiful flower come from a plant burdened with so many
sharp thorns?"
Saddened by this thought, he neglected to water the rose, and before it was
ready to bloom, it died.
So it is with many people. Within every soul there is a rose;
the God like qualities planted in us at birth growing amid the thorns of our faults.
Many of us look at ourselves and see only the thorns, the defects.
We despair, thinking that nothing good can possibly come from us.
We neglect to water the good within us, and eventually it dies.
We never realize our potential.
Some people do not see the rose within themselves;
someone else must show it to them.
One of the greatest gifts a person can possess is to be able to
reach past the thorns and find the rose within others.
This is the characteristic of love....
to look at a person and know their true faults,
Accepting that person into your life,
while recognizing the nobility in their soul.
Helping them to realize that they can overcome their faults.
If only we show them the rose, they will conquer their thorns.
Only then will they blossom many times over.

this is beautiful...
thanks for sharing it.
i find myself like you sometimes, beating down on myself striving for my perfection, how i feel i can be my personal perfect...and the one person that always slows me down and tells me all is right is my husband, my soul mate. i often fuss with him and say its the artist in me who seeks perfection...but i know it's not...its just me not being patient with myself and not allowing time for my growth.
it is also true that this describes a "soulmate" relationship, despite the flaws i intimately know of my husband...i love him even more for all the wonderful qualities he possess and i know he feels the same.
thank you for sharing this.

This is really wonderful..
it's so rare that I come across a parable or story that I haven't heard or read before. This is beautiful and touching. I had to read it to my love last night so we could talk about it. I feel that this really describes certain aspects of a "soul mate" relationship because although each person is not perfect, love can be much bigger than that and it is the commitment to work through obstacles and pain together that is essential to sharing a lifetime with the person(s) you truly love!
Yes Lioness...For The Lioness You Know, For The Empress You Love, For The Goddess You Are!
So true.....
I agree,my husband is my "soul mate" and being commented to the journey we choose to be on together is hard at times but so rewarding.
When I first read this parable I was convicted at how I tend to be down on myself as the author describes. I had to realize that reaching goals takes time and the reward in the end is bliss.
