So, you have begun your home-schooling journey. You sit down to admire your to-do-list and feel so accomplished.

Yes, so accomplished!
Did you forget something? You! "Me. Who is ME?" In between creative writing lessons, martial arts class, washing clothes, and giving tlc to spouse, ME went missing. Women who have the dual role of wife and mommy/teacher "forget" that they too have skills, talents, knowledge, and know-how. When the realization sets in that they have forgotten about themselves other negative feelings have started to move in on their mind and heart. "I can't do this anymore, I am giving up! I must be kidding myself! No one in this house is showing me any appreciation!" Put on the brakes! It is not as serious as you think it is, you have simply forgotten about yourself. Take the bull by the horns, highlight your strengths and act on them, stir up that entrepreneurial spirit, look into WAHM opportunities, share your expertise via blogging. Channel your energy into all the aspects of your life that you love, wife, mommy, teacher, and self, to have a perfect balance.
I love finding home-schooling women who are doing something that they love. Kreation Domains. This home-schooling mom is moving forward with her business and assisting other women who want to do the same.

Mama Times is a must
Mawiyah Kai EL-Jamah Bomani
It is so seldom that Ican keep the villagers sane and myself balanced all at the same time. I know that educating my children is a reward in itself and one that they will come to understand as they travel through this world. I feel rejuvinated when I hear women taking charge of their lives and building a sacred community of well educated Afrikan chillun LOL. We need to recognize out time to bath in lavender enriched epsom salt. To read, to dance, to laugh. It is rewarding to be a mother and a divaqueen all in one.

Mama Time...
Yes, we need to not only recognize what we are doing, we need to schedule time for ourselves. I just started to "unschool" my teenage son and what makes it so different from the other times I have attempted to homeschool is that it is more relaxed and we are in our flow...I am an artist that in the past I have been very reluctant to put myself out there as an artist - I hid behind tasks and "to-do" lists. Now, it is a new day! I schedule Wednesdays as my creative day and I work in my "studio" all day. My son has his goals list that we either talk about or he writes down and he is on it.
I have this theory that a household is full of joy when the Mama is full of her own personal joy - so, Mamas need Mama Time. My son is older so things are a little easier for me than for a Sistah with little people but I remember when my son was small I would just wake up a little earlier and take a candle lit bath before starting my day. You would not believe how a prayerful, meditative, scented bath can change the whole outlook of your day. I would take some tea in there and make it my own spa. I noticed how the mornings were less rushed. I would get him dress for school and me for work and we were out the door.
The world is becoming more rushed because we all have this pressure on us to keep up and sustain what we have. I find this energy can take us out of what is really important - which is to be present and mindful.
Much Light to all the Mamas doing the work! Thanks for this post.
Peace,

Your theory is right on point.
I am glad you take a day for yourself. I do as well, because I know that oneday of giving myself a pedicure and manicure, reading, relaxing, or doing something that I enjoy is not going to disrupt my schedule. My girls are learning all the time so they flow right through the day making up stories, and enjoying their playtime together.

I Heart You!
Hey I was just thinking about you...read some of your blog posts earlier...okay, on to this post: This is in EXACT tune to how I have been feeling lately. It gets real hard many times as a SAHM especially us that are home/unschoolers. I finally sat myself down and twisted my locks the other day and I felt so rushed because I knew there was a laundry list of things I had to get done before the 5:00pm rush hour hits! LOL. Beyond ymib I have another site that I will be editor of and I really really want to open up an Etsy shop or two, while all at the same time getting the little one ready for the k12 home school program next year and keeping the home in order along with balancing "Me Time" and keeping my sanity throughout it all!!!:)
Nevertheless this post has given me the boost of energy I needed to get through working tonight...because I was about to say..oh the heck with it and just go to bed, but now I am energized and ready to do something productive. Thank you Itiel!. You Made It Beautiful for me today!

I Heart You Too!
You are such a busy one. I feel you! I am glad that I could give you that boost...keep running with it.
P.S. I set aside a Hair day for myself. That day it is just me and my locs. I wash, condition, tea rinse, separate, twist (sometimes), and moisturize, meticulously all the while in silence.

absolutely!
GODMAMA HERE!!
thank you so much for bringing this to my attention, the checklist, the what about me, factor. i am a musician trying to figure out how to go and perform at the open mic from 7 to 10 at night when i'm ready to go to bed my dang self by that time or i have to find some one i want to leave my daughter and son with not to mention my son is 3 months and breast feeding. i would like to hook up with other homeschooling moms but frankly thats not unfolding as easily as i hoped.
just because your both homeschooling doesen't mean you like minded always.
i'm going for a afrocentric(kemetic)/muslim/mulicultural/metaphysic/philosophic/scientific/multilingual
/artistic approach and i'm kind of feeling like maybe i've bitten off more than i can chew.
i'm not discouraged, but more like sizing up the double dutch rope swaying back and forth, lookin for the right time and place to jump in. l.o.l.
i want to incorporate other peoples(and children) for many different reasons ,socialization, i enjoy children, sharing/spreading the knowledge that i come across with the new breed, and meeting others on the same page, and learning/building with them.
i guess the biggest part of it is that i'm a team player i like to do thing s in a group. any body in the bay area feel me?
no matter where u are your wisdom gives me inspiration.
i've got high hopes and i did'nt graduate high school
, but i am swimming in the school of life and become wiser by the day when i realize that there is so much more to learn and to keep aware,
that the world is my oyster as well as it is for anyone else who chooses to overstand this,no matter how much fear and suspicion "they" try to pump us full of.
i want children to to get this early.and i think we can learn again as we teach, the old ways. the good ways.
