Its a wonder we're still alive! Those with money are leaving the city, commuting into London only to work or take in a show. They understand the quality of life in a city robs you of at least 6 years of your life. The air and water are polluted, the food is not sun ripened thus bland, genetically modified and filled with pesticides. Increasingly we are supplementing our diets because we don't seem to be getting sufficient nutrients from our food. My affirmation for this year has been 'do what you can, with what you have, where you are'. It has made me take a critical look at what i do and the abundance i have around me that i can use for the betterment of self and kind.
Part of the solution for our communities' ills is a return to simple things. Sankofa. Why do we have to get sick before we make healthy changes in our lives? Isn't it time we started to value ourselves more? Living in this environment we definately have to take blood cleansers. Red clover, dandelion, burdock anything that cleanses the blood of pollutants has to form part of a daily routine. Buying our food collectively is key to keeping down the costs of a healthy lifestyle. The Organic Fruit and Veg Bulk buy scheme is such an initiative. I currently run a food coop which offers wonderful boxes of organic fruit and veg at a fraction of the costs you would spend at the supermarket. This isn't a organic delivery service its about enabling the community and developing cooperative economics-Ujamaa, there's an ethic behind it.
A course in anatomy will give great insight into our bodies and knowledge of the indicators which are the early warning signs of malfunction or disease. The Holistic Health and Wellness course is an excellent intensive course which explores health from a African point of view, facilitated by Dr Llaila O Africa it challenges us to look at health and the body in a different way. Learning to identify herbs and grow herbs means you can heal yourself directly. Growing your own herbs doesn't take much space. Nature heals and we need to develop a relationship with it. Saying no sometimes and taking time to slow down and relax is also important. One of the major killers in our community is Stress. Many of us don't know when to stop or even how to stop not understanding that relaxation is just as important as exercise. Being healthy is expensive, but it doesn't have to be if you have a strategy. The need to focus on our lifestyle and health has never been so critical. The journey to liberation is not for the sick but with a healthy body and mind we can make it . Start investing in yourself today.
