At midnight Saturday night, Sunday morning, I broke my fast. I enjoyed a portobella mushroom burger with swiss cheese, on an onion roll, with lettuce, tomato and onions. It was delicious. I was at bar with some friends, listening to my boyfriend's blue's band perform. Everyone was expecting me to order hot wings or a bacon cheeseburger, but I was afraid of how my body would react to such harsh food, so I opted to ease back into certain foods. Actually, I haven't had a taste for meat yet. I tried to eat a piece of baked chicken and I could only eat about two bites of the drumstick. It just didn't taste all that great to me. The things I missed the most during this fast were breads, dairy foods and sugar. And speaking of sugar, my first taste of sweet, was overwhelmingly sweet! Wow! I tried to eat a piece of pound cake and only ate the corner. It was too much. I really thought that I would go out and feast on all of the things that I had been craving all week but I just don't want it. Its like my cravings are for fruit and veggie now. I went back to the farmer's market yesterday and stocked up. I included bread of course, they have the best at the DeKalb farmer's market bakery! My boyfriend, who has always been a healthier eater than me, has been phenomenally supportive and wants us both to way more vegetables and far less meat. So we are going try to eat meat only 2 or 3 times a week versus every night for dinner. I plan to pick up some other grocery items this week, I really want some spaghetti. Plus I need some cheese!!
On another note, my moontime began on Sunday morning, and I had read that it might be different after fasting because my body had began to detox. Well it certainly is very different. Painful and very heavy and dark. I know this is because my body is expelling waste but I haven felt like this since I was a teenager. I pray it eases up. I look forward to continuing these better eating habits and seeing if my cycles get easier and lighter as there is less and less waste to be removed. I am looking for any information regarding fasting, detoxing and vegetarianism in regards to menstruation. I have "Sacred Woman" on hold at the library and have been searching the web but I am not coming up with a lot of information. If anyone has any info, books titles, websites or advice I would love to hear it, Thanks!!!
