Hey Sistah's, Need a little help.I just received the news yesterday that I will be relocating to Illinois. The bad thing about this is I know nothing about this state and I am expected to research and find a home there.I get only one visit there to actually view my choice of homes before the big move. The Realtor that I will be working with is supposed to contact me today with her list of possible homes, however I don't want my new location to be entirely left in her hands. So,I'm asking if there are any sistah's here who are from Illinois, please lend me a helping hand.Like, which neighborhoods are equally diverse that are somewhat close to Chicago.20-30 min.commute from downtown .There is nothing wrong with a predominately white neighborhood, but I don't want my family to be the tokens ,either.Any help will greatly be appreciated. My comfort level is off the grid here
I have a few ideas...
I live in a northern suburb called Evanston, its about 15 minutes from downtown Chicago. I'm actually less than a 10 minute walk to Chicago and there is a community that I love that is incredibly diverse called Rogers Park. Because the economy taking a drastic dive Rogers Park is my recommendation. Its lies along Lakeshore Drive and properties are going up for sale vvveeerryyy quickly- you might want to check it out ( I'll do some checking too) These homes in this area are usually owned by real estate investors who actually live within the community. The area consist of great brown and grey stone with architectural designs with Single family homes, Apartments, Condos, Co-ops and planned shared communities. Also this area has the most diverse community I've seen in Chicago, Rogers Park is considered to be on the Northside of Chicago-
Love Oak Park, Bronseville and Hyde Park too, sorry so much to tell you about send me a note so we can chat offline

Thanks So Much
Thanks for the info.I'm starting to get a better feel for Chicago and what I'm in store for.So far,The areas you guys suggested are exactly as you say.Lovely, but extremely expensive. The avg.price for Hyde Park for a 3-4 bed rm.house is 750,000 and where I am now, that price will get you a mansion and acres of land.I might just have to go outside of Chicago.I really don't want too, cause of the commute for my husband, but right now it's looking that way. What can you tell me about DeKalb,Aurora,De page and Naperville. These areas seem to have more house for the money. If anyone gets a minute, please look at this map and let me know which area is diverse.Peace, Indigo http://www.realtor.com/chicago/nbregion.asp?st=il
Hyde Park is a great place
Hyde Park is a great place to move. Its a very diverse, small community. Theres plenty of family friendly activities and clubs and you would be only minutes from the lake and downtown. The negatives of Hyde Park is that it is very expensive. I'm not sure if you are looking to purchase or rent. Some other communities you might be interested in are Bronzville, Old Town, Lincoln Park, or Beverly. All communities have its ups and downs. If you are interested I could put you in contact with a real estate agent here in Chicago. I work for New West Realty and we specialize in purchasing and rentals. They would be able to email some properties from MLS and also give you details on each community that might be of interest to you. Let me know: coolandfresh.1@gmail.com. Also check out our website NewWestRealty.com. Good Luck!

I live west in Oak Park. Its right on the border of the city and a racially diverse suburb. The Green and Blue CTA (chicago transit authority) train lines are easily accesibly and it's right off a major expressway so getting downtown is a breeze. OP also has one of the best school systems in the state.
I got you Sis!
Peace Sis!

I don't really know much
I don't really know much about about Chicago. However, I have consistently heard the name Hyde Park come up as a desirable, progressive, diverse area to live. Hopefully other people will be able to chime in here.
