“Bulans stimulating potion of breath taking harmony, fluent melody, and deep emotion becomes more compelling with each performance. Her original songs are infused with themes of life, love and reality, even a little drama and heartache.” Freedom Williams Entertainment
Africa meets Spain in Brooklyn! With the ancient name that means Africa, up and coming Artist Alkebulan (pronounced Ah-kha-buh-lan) also known as “Bulan” for short, is bringing the spice of Spanish beats and mixing it up with some soulful and poetic African & Dance rhythms. Her latest EP “Alkebulan: Rebel Soul” carries some fresh upbeat sounds that will have you groovin to her beat. Her song “Not Love At First Sight” is a fresh new love song that many of us girls can relate to and she tells a realistic story of heartache, realism, and stereotypes in her song “Minority Story”. This song wraps up the issues facing the minority world all while encompassing cultural beats to keep your attention. “Dance Of Life” is definitely a must hear, as the mixed beats of Latin sounds and what seems to be African melodies play soulfully together in the background...she incorporates her culture within it all and we love it.
Alkebulan did not pursue an entertainment career seriously until she landed an opportunity to be a part of music legend Paul Simon’s Broadway production and soundtrack for “The Capeman”. This project allowed her the opportunity to work alongside singer/songwriter Ruben Blades, as well as Latin Pop sensation Marc Anthony. Her mission is to break the stereotypes in popular music. “My music is about the people,” she says. “I strive to free people from some of the mental trivia that is injected into their brains on a daily basis.” Her career has been blossoming ever since. Besides her role as an artist, Alkebulan is the Vice President of the Rufus Perry Foundation. She is in charge of research and project development. Every year the foundation donates $1,000 in a scholarship to African American students who excel in academics and who wish to study African culture at university level. We love artists like “Bulan” who is not only stepping the game of the music industry up to new standards but she delivers her songs to her communities with her actions. She's definitely a star on the rise, and we can't wait to hear more from her along the lines of “Minority Story” and “Dance of Life”. She's taking back the stereotypes with the soul of her music and no one's complaining.
