I'm a very deep thinker and while I'm thinking I sometimes consider sharing it in a blog. A lot of the time I am very hesitant if it's a controversial issue. Other times I will not even dare to write specific topics knowing that it's not suitable for the public eye to see.
This blog is in the category of being hesitant if it was written in the wrong place! For example, I was first going to write this blog on MySpace but knew right away that it would not be the best idea.I have decided to write here on YMIB because we are all cultural, black women and we are meant to mold, shape and lead the perspectives in our community.Women were highly revered in our ancient culture for our wisdom and influence.
So one thing I believe we as women would be auspicious at healing in our community are the deep wounds of racism. Women have qualities of being healers on many levels - cultural, spiritual, political, familial, etc . We have the power to heal the injustices of racism.Black women can also encourage family and friends not to be racist. After all, in order for us to want racism to end don't we have to start with ourselves?
This is my brief suggestion list. Please keep in mind that it's definitely not a complete list:
*Reinforce the fact that it's the actions of people that are evil not their individual selves. For example, I have read of perspectives that insist that white people are devils, evil and inhumane. I by no hesitation believe that the actions of many Europeans, especially during slavery was devilish, evil and inhumane but I don't label every European like that. By labeling them; we are failing to lead the example of stopping them from initiating stereotypes and labeling against us(i.e. we're all criminals, uneducated and much more).
*Support our black men and fellow sistahs in our experiences of racism. A listening ear and words of positive advice makes a world of difference
*Some ways of living show how racism has effected us. For example, skin bleaching, wanting children with blonde hair and blue eyes, perming our hair, etc. Refusing those lifestyle choices makes a subtle but effective stand against racism.
*We can make an effort to teach our children what racism is and where it comes from. We can also teach them how to deal with racism.
*We can foster faith that racism will completely cease. If we encourage that mentality then our belief in a better tomorrow will be as strong as steel.
*One major part of ending the attacks and oppression of racism is to be devoted activists. When it shows that we are intolerant of racism and that we are fighting the cause, it allows us to make a powerful stand. Thus we have a greater chance of anti-racism to prevail.
*"Know Thyself" The most popular quote that came from Kamit(ancient Egypt). When we know ourselves and in this case racially we become rich! When we love our skin, our culture and heritage we have reversed the hundreds of years of racial oppression. Over 500 years of programmed racist thoughts are embedded in us . As a people, we are programmed to believe we're unworthy, ugly, impure, stupid, etc.
Once we eat, breath, and sleep blackness we are so confident in who we are that we now have a much better chance to defend, fight, and reverse racism.
