The Sexual Griot and the Ceremonialist

Blessings Goddess Women!

I enjoy the sharing that women do on my show Wisdom Talks and the latest to share are our very own Sexual Griot, Angelique Shofar. We had such a wonderful time talking, sharing our wisdom with one another and breathing in Sensual SiStarhood.

...and then, I had a conversation with another awesome SiStar whose name is Opeyemi Parham. She is a former medical doctor who turned Ceremonialist to help women especially to heal their wounds. That interview will be up either today or tomorrow.

You can tune into the show anytime at http://www.mosaradio.net/Wisdom%20Talks%20PL.htm

...and if you want to download the interviews to your iPod, you can do so by going to http://www.mosaradio.net and you will see the banner that leads you to that.

Please enjoy the conversations with these Wise Women. I know I did!

Something to Think About

Blessings Goddess Women!

Okay, I just finished reading Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein for the third time and I love that book. Such wisdom within science fiction.

In the book, the Man From Mars, Michael Valentine Smith says to his 'water brothers' (that includes women) "Thou Art God!" In this day and age, we have heard many say Namaste or we have said it ourselves. In essence both greetings say the same thing.

So, here is a thought. If the Divine Essence was to personify itself in human form and visited your home, how would you treat that essence?

Can you accept saying and believing the terminology Thou Are God/dess?

Even though we are all of the same essence there are those who refuse to live to the highest standards, i.e, murderers, rapists, pedophiles. These are types of essence that the Man From Mars would blink away, sending them back to the beginning that they may remember and advance in Higher Knowledge. Oh, if only it could be so simple. :-)

Becoming Peers-Mentoring Girls Into Womanhood

Blessings SiStars,

I am happy to announce that Becoming Peers by DeAnna L'am whom I interviewed on Wisdom Talks is now available through my website http://wombshaman.com. You will find it in the Book Store Section...of course. :-)

Here is a little something about the book...

An inspirational guide for mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers,
aunts, cousins, or any woman
wishing to nurture a girl through her coming of age
(while empowering herself!)

This book provides practical guidelines for mentoring a girl into womanhood. It offers creative ceremonies and activities designed to honor a girl’s transition and call her to new levels of maturity.

At the same time, it presents the adult woman/mentor with powerful tools for enhancing her inner and outer life.

The book is motivated by the belief that for a girl to enter womanhood in a meaningful way, it is essential that her mother
and other special women in her life cultivate a new way of relating that will gradually help her to become their peer.

Honoring Menstruation with DeAnna L'am

Blessings SiStars,

The newest interview is ready for your listening pleasure http://www.mosaradio.net/Wisdom%20Talks%20PL.htm

It is a conversation with DeAnna L'am who is Blood SiStar who has been working with the blood mysteries for the past 13 years. She visited Israel and gathered both Israeli and Palestinian women together in the Red Tent.

If you would like to subscribe to the podcast, you can do so at http://mosaradio.net you'll see the banner on the right hand side of the site. This way, you can listen on your iPod.

Enjoy the sharing.

Good4Girls

Blessings SiStars,

Good4Girls is an organization that sends natural cloth pad kits to parts of Africa where the women need it most. Large companies like Always and Tampax have started campaigns to send menstrual pads but those pads that are laden with chemicals must be burned because there are no proper waste facilities in those areas.

Many women are using rags and young girls are not attending school during their cycle (they should be going to the Moon Hut or the Women's Hut) but since society has ruled out resting during the most sacred time of the month for a woman, something else must take place.

This organization is asking women to donate natural cloth pads that they sew or money if they don't sew to help women experience a more graceful moontime.

Daughters of the Earth Gathering

Blessings SiStars,

I am most honored to be one of the teachers at the Daughters of the Earth Gathering that is taking place August 7-10 in Petersham, MA.

ALisa Starkweather is truly one of the great visionaries of our time in bringing women together in a setting that is beneficial to our connection to this great planet that we all call home.

A couple of years ago, while working in a metaphysical bookstore, I heard the calling to organize a women's conference in Georgia. I was told that I had to re-create a village, with eco friendly homes, ritual and a marketplace. A meeting was held and nineteen women came to hear about the conference. I held a fundraiser to go and look at some land in NC just outside of Georgia. The land was beautiful and the energy was good but then there were challenges that I was not able to deal with at the time, so I put it on the back burner, so to speak and then lo' and behold, ALisa and I talked and the invitation was extended to me to be a Vision Keeper and teacher for something that was almost exactly what I had thought about.

Conversation with a Matriarch

Blessings SiStars,

I have had the honor to interview Barbara G. Walker whom I admire for her work in Women's Mysteries over a period of years. She is truly one of the Grand Matriarchs of this time. This is a rare opportunity as Ms. Walker does not grant interviews on a regular basis. To my knowledge, she has done one other on Voices of the Sacred Feminine.

Amongst her books are Restoring the Goddess, The Women's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets, Crone:Woman of Age, Wisdom and Power, Dictionary of Sacred Symbols and Objects and a number of other books which she names in the interview.

Scientists Say Menstrual Blood Can Repair Hearts

Blessings Goddesses,

Thought you might find this interesting. I've been a Sacred Blood Advocate for years now and have encouraged women to give away their blood to Mother Earth in a ritualistic way. Though this article does not speak to ritual, it says a lot about the healing power of a woman's Sacred Monthly Blood Cycle.

Scientists Say menstrual blood can repair hearts

The monthly discomfort many women see as a curse could pay off someday as Japanese researchers say menstrual blood can be used to repair heart damage.
Scientists obtained menstrual blood from nine women and cultivated it for about a month, focusing on a kind of cell that can act like stem cells.

Some 20 percent of the cells began beating spontaneously about three days after being put together in vitro with cells from the hearts of rats. The cells from menstrual blood eventually formed sheet-like heart-muscle tissue.

The success rate is 100 times higher than the 0.2-0.3 percent for stem cells taken from human bone marrow, according to Shunichiro Miyoshi, a cardiologist at Keio University's school of medicine, who is involved in the research.

9 Spirits of Woman

Blessings SiStars,

I felt moved to share this with you as you seek to find sexual fulfillment...

9 Spirits
of Woman...

If a woman breathes deeply and swallows the saliva
that she is profusely secreting, then it is her LUNG
SPIRIT that is aroused.

If she starts whispering loving words and kisses her
partner, then it is her HEART SPIRIT that is awakened.

If she holds her lover in her arms, then her SPLEEN
SPIRIT has come to life.

If her Sexual Cavern becomes moist and slippery, then
her KIDNEY SPIRIT is excited.

If she begins to suck her partners tongue, then her
BONE SPIRIT is animated.

If she hooks her partner's lower body with her feet,
then her MUSCLE SPIRIT has arrived.

If she begins to handle her lovers' Jade Stalk, then
her BLOOD SPIRIT has become stimulated.

And if she caresses the nipples and chest of her
beloved, then her FLESH SPIRIT has become delighted.

If all these eight spirits do not arrive and
harmonize, then the woman will be harmed by
love-making. But if the spirits evolve in sequence,
she will derive great benefits.

The ninth spirit of woman is brought into action when

Surprising and Not So Surprising Definitions

Blessings SiStars,

Have you ever wondered what was the original meaning behind certain words that affect us in a negative manner? I did and this is what I found...

Definitions

“Mystery is defined as that which is beyond understanding, that which baffles or perplexes, that which is profound and known only by revelation. When we speak of women’s Blood Mysteries, we are referring to certain biological events, such as menarche and childbirth, that are accompanied by changed perspective and the influx of knowledge beyond reason. We don’t know why we change and grow and acquire knowledge at these times, but we do-this is a Mystery. And as we share this knowledge, the revelations linked to changes in our bodies, we reclaim the power and wisdom inherent in being women.” Pg. 1 The Women’s Wheel of Life by Elizabeth Davis and Carol Leonard (now entitled The Circle of Life)

Voices of the Ancestral Mothers

Voices of the Ancestral Mothers
By Tonya K. Freeman D.D Ms D.

Do you hear them? The Ancestral Mothers are communicating with us on a daily basis.

As a young child, the women in my family would say “Something told me…” They never gave that something a name but they listened to the voice and heeded the message. My Mother always told me that the first thought is the correct thought. I follow that advice as much as possible but sometimes I slip up. I’m learning to listen better and better.

One of the things that I have been hearing the Ancestral Mothers say is that we, women, must reclaim all of who we are. We must understand and acknowledge the reason for being born in a female body this time around and that we must “remember the ancient ways and keep them sacred.” By denying our feminine aspects we do ourselves a great disservice. We are Virgin, Mother, Warrior, Matriarch and Crone.

Power of the Sacred Dance

The Power of the Sacred Dance (revised 2005)
By Dr. Tonya K. Freeman, Ancient Femi9 Wisdom Keeper

In ancient times, woman as Priestess, as Goddess, danced the Sacred Dance in the beauty of her nakedness. She danced in the temples, on the hills, in the valley, by the ocean, in caves and in the desert. The Sacred Dancer connected herself to the entire universe. She was one with all things. The dance was not only a way of telling the story of life it was a celebration of life itself. Uni-Verse. One Song. The Song of Love.

Women knew the magic and the healing power of the Sacred Dance. They knew that by dancing together and for one another that they were doing the work of the Great Mother Goddess. They enjoyed a direct connection to the Divine Femi9 Energy.

At some point in history, the Dance of Life became misinterpreted and seen as lewd. Patriarchy began to set the tone for the Sacred Dance. Man must have felt threatened by the Movement of Life and chose to restrain and contain women in their most natural state of being.

The Sacred Source

The Sacred Source
By Tonya K. Freeman D.D MsD

Too many women have sex simply because. The reasons are many. They don’t want to feel left out. They feel that sex with anyone is better than sex with no one. They do it out of revenge for having been raped or molested. They just don’t know any better. They don’t realize that the womb is the Sacred Source of life. They are not aware of the most precious gift of creativity. Sexual energy…and what a powerful energy it is.

The Sacred Source is called Yoni in India. The translation of the Yoni in Sanskrit is womb, origin, source or vulva.

According to Rufus Camphausen in his book, Yoni: Creative Symbol of Feminine Power, the word Yoni is broken down in this manner…Y = the animating principle, the heart, the true self, union, O = preservation, brightness I = love, desire, consciousness, to shine, to pervade, pain, sorrow, N = lotus, Motherhood, menstrual cycle, nakedness, emptiness, pearl.

The I and the N change position. Though it is spelled Yoin it is pronounced yonee.

The Rites of Women - Celebrating the Mother to Be

The Rites of Women Pt. 2
By Rev. Dr. Tonya K. Freeman

Rite of Passage: Celebrating the Mother to Be

As a woman awaits the birth of her child, there is a ritual that is practiced in America and it is called a baby shower. It is the closest that we come to celebrating the state of being that a woman is in…the anticipation of the “almost here time.”

There is another ritual that is becoming popular known as the Blessing Way Ceremony in honor of the Navajo Tradition. Some call it a Belly Blessing or Mother Blessing but it came to me as the “One Who Carries Life Within Blessing.” These celebrations usually take place in the latter part of the Oneness. Women who are family members and/or friends come to celebrate the wonders of Motherhood.

When women gather in SiStarhood there is a healing effect that is in place. The bond that is formed in ritual is very strong and lifetime friendships develop.

The celebration is usually planned by female members of the family, close friends or even a woman who facilitates these types of rituals and ceremonies. In fact the Mother to Be can create her own ceremony if she is so moved.

The Rites of Women - Menarche

The Rites of Women ©2005
By Rev. Dr. Tonya K. Freeman

First Rite: Menarche

For a number of years now, I have been a strong advocate of women reclaiming their spiritual mysteries. In my workshops, seminars, and Primordial Priestess Training, the women are encouraged to identify and embrace the first mystery that they were introduced to, their Sacred Moon Cycle. By honoring this part of themselves, many have experienced a closer connection to Gaia’s rhythms and cycles, less cramps, less blood flow and in some cases less days of flowing. I love hearing reports such as these because it makes the work that I was born to do and love to do, a lot easier. There are still many miles to go, so to speak.

As I think back upon my entry into womanhood the Summer of my thirteenth year. I remember that there was somewhat of a celebration given by my Mother, one of my aunts and my favorite female cousin. I had not really remembered that time, until now, as I am writing this article.

Primordial Healer: Shaman Woman

Sharing once again something that I wrote...

Primordial Healer: Shaman Woman©2005

By Rev. Dr. Tonya K. Freeman

The oldest healing tradition in the world is shamanism. It is primitive. It is primal. It is a powerful practice. Today it would also be classified by such names as “holistic healing”, or “integrative medicine”. My beloved calls it “Harmonic Infusion.” I have been led to call it “Primordial Healing.”

Some time ago, I read an article entitled, Birthing as a Shamanic Experience by Leslie McIntyre. In the article, it was stated that when a woman gives birth naturally, she is between two worlds, the world of life and the world of death. This, in and of itself, is a Shamanic experience. It led me to do more research into the world of the female shaman, the one who is a Primordial Healer.

In her book Shakti Woman, Vicki Noble quotes Geoffery Ashe, a British scholar who specializes in shamanism as saying, “Ancient shamanism was not an individual phenomenon but was something that was practiced by the female group. And the power of the female group is biologically rooted in menstruation and the blood mysteries of birth.”

Medicine Shield for Boundaries & Fear Medicine

Blessings,

As I journey along my path in life, there are things that I come across that ring true to me and the Medicine Shield for Boundaries, Armadillo Animal Totem resonated with me very much.

I take a few moments to share this information with you here.

I had done a reading with the Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams and picked the Armadillo card this morning. It speaks to how the Armadillo can ball itself up and protect itself from all outside influences. The recommendation is to make a circle and inside of the circle you write all the things that you want in your life. Things that bring you joy, the desires of your heart, etc. and on the outside of the circle you write those things that you do not want in your life.

Some of the things that you may want are more joy, love, prosperity, a new home, a child, etc., some of the things that you may not want, gossip, jealousy, envy, bitterness, lack, etc.

If this is something that you find useful, then I encourage you to add it to your practice.

SiStarhood; Gather the Women

Blessings Goddesses,

I am taking a few minutes to share an article that I wrote sometime ago. Please enjoy.

SiStarhood: Gather the Women
copyright 2006
By Rev. Dr. Tonya K. Freeman

“No nation can rise higher than its woman.” – Elijah Muhammed –

Many years ago when I was a young woman of twenty – two years, a palm reader from India said to me, “One day, you will be a great leader of women.” I was stunned to hear this at the time since it was not even a thought in my mind to take on that type of responsibility but little did I know that on two more occasions others who were “in the know” said almost the same exact thing to me.

So, here I am now at the age of fifty-five and I have been helping to empower women through knowledge of self for over thirty years. It is a great feeling when women come together in SiStarhood to assist one another along their walk in life. Seeing a SiStar emerge as a lotus flower, rising from the ashes like a Phoenix makes my heart warm.
